Jeremiah On Pride And Arrogance Leading To Idol Worship Or Either Way

This is the root cause of Moab’s fate.

Utterance of “To G-d Be The Glory,” may not have an inch of truth to it. As you give credit to yourself rather than G-d.

Be reminded that G-d knows your true intentions, actions and reactions.

“Moab – Its Downfall and Judgment”

Concerning Moab: Thus said Hashem, Master of Legions, God of Israel: Alas unto Nebo, for it has been plundered; shamed, captured was Kiriathaim; shamed was Misgab and devastated.
48:1
The glory of Moab is no more; …
:2
Moab has been shattered; its youths have let out a cry.
:4
For, because you put your trust in your accomplishments and in your treasures, you, too, will be conquered. Chemosh will leave for exile, his priests and officials together.
:7
A plunderer will come to every city; no city will be spared. The valley will be lost and the plain laid waste, for Hashem has spoken.
:8
Cursed be the one who carries out the mission of Hashem deceitfully! …
:10
Moab was complacent from its youth, tranquil on its lees and not being poured from container to container, and did not go into exile; therefore its taste has stayed in it, and its scent was not diminished.
:11
Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, just as the House of Israel was shamed of Beth-el, in which they trusted.
:13
Moab has been plundered and its cities obliterated; and its best young men have gone to the slaughter — the word of the King, Hashem, Master of Legions, is His Name.
:15
Get him drunk, for he has been arrogant to Hashem; let Moab wallow in his vomit, and him too become a laughingstock.
:26
‘We have heard of the pride of Moab, it was excessively prideful: his conceit, his pride, his haughtiness and the arrogance of his heart.’
:29
I know his fury — the word of Hashem — and it is unfounded; his heroes acted improperly.
:30
I will abolish for Moab — the word of Hashem — whoever sacrifices at high places and whoever burns incense to his god.
:35
Moab shall be destroyed as a people, for they have been arrogant to Hashem.
:42
However, I will bring back the captivity of Moab in the end of days — the word of Hashem. Until this point is the judgment of Moab.
:47

1 Concerning Moab. So said the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel; Woe to Nebo for it is spoiled; Kiriathaim is shamed, it is taken; Misgab is shamed and broken.
2 The praise of Moab is no more; in Heshbon they planned harm to her; Let us go and cut her off from [being] a nation. Also, Madmen, you shall be a waste; the sword shall follow you.
3 A voice of a cry [shall be heard] from Horonaim; plunder and great destruction.
4 Moab is broken; her youths have let a cry be heard.
5 The ascent of Luhith with weeping shall he ascend, yea weeping, for in the descent of Horonaim the adversaries heard a cry of destruction.
6 Flee, save your lives, and you shall be like Aro’er in the desert.
7 For, since you relied on your deeds and on your treasures, you too shall be taken, and Chemosh shall go forth into exile, his priests and his princes together.
8 And the spoiler shall come to every city, and no city shall escape, and the valley shall be lost and the plain destroyed, as the Lord has said.
9 Give wings to Moab for she shall fly away, and her cities shall become waste, without anyone dwelling in them.
10 Cursed be he who performs the Lord’s work deceitfully, and cursed be he who withholds his sword from blood.
11 Moab has been at ease since his youth, and he is settled on his lees, and he has not been poured from one vessel to another vessel, and he has not gone into exile; therefore, its flavor remained therein, and its bouquet did not change.
12 Therefore, behold days are coming, says the Lord, and I will send men to pour him out and they shall pour him out, and they shall empty his vessels and smash his jars.
13 And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el, their reliance.
14 How do you say, “We are mighty men, and valiant men for war?”
15 Moab has been plundered, and her cities have been laid waste, and the choicest of their young men have gone down to the slaughter, says the King, the Lord of Hosts is His name.
16 The destruction of Moab is near to come, and his evil has hastened exceedingly.
17 Lament for them, all those around them, and all who know their name, say: How has the staff of strength been broken, the rod of glory?
18 Come down from glory and sit in thirst, O daughter who dwells in Dibon, for the spoiler of Moab has marched upon you, he has destroyed your fortresses.
19 Stand by the road and look, O dweller of Aro’er, ask those who have fled and escaped, tell what has transpired.
20 Moab is ashamed for it is broken; wail and cry, tell in Arnon that Moab has been spoiled.
21 And judgment has come to the land of the plain, to Holon and to Jahzah and to Mephaath.
22 and to Dibon and to Nebo and to Beth-diblathaim,
23 and to Kiriathaim and to Beth-gamul and to Beth-meon,
24 and to Kerioth and to Bozrah and to all the cities of the land of Moab, both far and near.
25 The horn of Moab has been cut off, and his arm is broken, says the Lord.
26 Make him drunk, for he has magnified himself against the Lord, and Moab shall wallow in his vomit and he too shall become a derision.
27 For was not Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves, that whenever you speak of him you shake your head?
28 Leave the cities and dwell in the rock, you inhabitants of Moab, and be like a dove, that nests in the sides of the mouth of a pit.
29 We have heard the pride of Moab, very proud, his loftiness and his pride and his haughtiness, and the arrogance of his heart.
30 I know, says the Lord, his wrath, and it is not so, his mighty men have not dealt properly.
31 Therefore, I wail for Moab, and for all of Moab I will cry; for the people of Kir-heres they shall moan.
32 From the weeping of Jazer I will weep for you, O grape vine of Sibmah; your tendrils have crossed the sea, they reached the sea of Jazer; upon your dried figs and upon your vintage the spoiler has fallen.
33 And joy and jubilation shall be taken away from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab, and I will cause the wine to cease from the pits. No one shall tread with shouting; The shouting shall be no shouting.
34 From the cry of Heshbon until Elaleh, they let out their voice as far as Jahaz, from Zoar until Horonaim, O third-born heifer, for also the waters of Nimrim shall become wastelands.
35 And I will cause to cease from Moab, says the Lord, one who offers up [sacrifices] on the high places and who burns incense to his gods.
36 Therefore, my heart shall stir for Moab like flutes, and my heart shall stir for the men of Kir-heres like flutes; because they dealt haughtily,
37 For every head is bald and every beard clipped; on all hands are scratches, and on the loins sackcloth.
38 On all the roofs of Moab and in her broad places, there is lamentation everywhere, for I have broken Moab like a vessel that has no use, says the Lord.
39 Wail, “How was she dismayed? How did Moab turn its back?” They were shamed, and Moab became a derision and a dismay to all its surroundings.
40 For so said the Lord: Behold, like an eagle he shall soar and spread out his wings upon Moab.
41 Kerioth has been taken, and the fortresses have been seized; and the heart of the mighty men of Moab shall be on that day like the heart of a woman travailing.
42 And Moab shall be destroyed from [being] a people, for they magnified themselves against the Lord.
43 Fright and a pit and a snare shall be upon you, O dweller of Moab, says the Lord.
44 Whoever flees the fright shall fall into the pit, and whoever ascends from the pit shall be caught in the snare, for I will bring to her, to Moab the year of their visitation, says the Lord.
45 In the shadow of Heshbon, those who were fleeing stood for [lack of strength], for a fire emanated from Heshbon and a flame from the city of Sihon, and it consumed the corner of Moab and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.
46 Woe to you, Moab, the people of Chemosh is lost, for your sons have been taken into captivity and your daughters into captivity.
47 And I will return the captivity of Moab at the end of days, says the Lord. Until here is the judgment of Moab.

Jeremiah (Yirmiyahu in Hebrew)

Opposed by false prophets.

Ingratitude and unfaithfulness caused Israel’s downfall that Jeremiah witnessed.

Idolatry is always the end-result of disobedience against G-d.
