Chapter 10

Nehemiah On The Torah

Commitment to obey, fulfill and accomplish the Laws.

If the previous chapter was not enough to convince you that G-d’s Commandments are of G-d’s, and no one has the authority to change or alter it, this chapter solidifies it.

A clear indication that a doctrine or teaching is of G-d or not, is in keeping versus disregarding the Torah/Laws/Teachings/Instructions/Decrees/Ordinances/Precepts/Statues.

“The Lasting Covenant”

“The Offerings”

But, despite all all this, we are establishing a lasting covenant and inscribing [it], …
10:1
… and everyone who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to [accept] God’s Torah, their wives, their sons and their daughters, all those who had knowledge [and] understanding,
:29
supported their brethren, their dignitaries, and entered into a curse and an oath to follow God’s Torah, which was given through the hand of Moses, the servant of God, and to observe and fulfill the commandments of Hashem, our Lord, and His laws and His decrees;
:30
and that we would not give our daughters [in marriage] to the peoples of the land, nor take their daughters for your sons;
:31
and that regarding the peoples of the land who bring [their] wares and all kinds of produce to sell on the Sabbath day, we would not buy from them on the Sabbath and on holy days; …
:32
We also instituted commandments upon ourselves to give one third of shekel yearly toward the service of the Temple of our God:
:33
… the Sabbath offerings, the New Moon offerings, [and] for the festival offerings and for the holy things, and for the sin-offerings to atone for Israel; and all the work in the Temple of our God.
:34
… at appointed times, year by year, to burn on the Altar of Hashem our God, as is written in the Torah.
:35
And [we accepted upon ourselves] to bring the first fruits of our ground and the first fruits of all the fruit of every required tree year by year to the Temple of Hashem;
:36
… as written in the Torah, and to bring the firstborn of our cattle and our flocks to the Temple of our God, to the Kohanim who serve in the Temple of our God;
:37
… and a tithe of [the produce of] our land to the Levites, …
:38
A Kohen, a descendant of Aaron, shall be with the Levites at the Levites’ tithing, and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithe to the Temple of our God, to the chambers of the storage house;
:39
… so that we not forsake the Temple of our God.
:40

29 And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the Nethinites, and all who separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, all who know enough to understand.
30 They held with their brethren, their noblemen, and entered the curse and the oath to follow the Law of God, which was given through Moses, the servant of God, and to keep and perform all the commandments of the Lord our Lord, and His ordinances and His statutes.
31 And that we shall not give our daughters to the peoples of the land, and we shall not take their daughters for our sons.
32 And as for the peoples of the land who bring merchandise and all grains on the Sabbath day to sell-we shall not purchase from them on the Sabbath or on holy days, and we shall abandon [the land] during the seventh year [and] the loan given by every hand.
33 And we set upon ourselves the commandments to give a third of a shekel a year for the service of the Temple of our God.
34 For the bread of the arrangement and the daily meal offering and for the daily burnt offering, the Sabbaths, the New Moons, the appointed seasons, and for the holy offerings and for the sin offerings to atone for Israel, and all the work of the Temple of our God.
35 And we cast lots for the wood offering, the priests, the Levites, and the people, to bring to the Temple of our God, to the House of our forefathers at set times, year by year, to burn on the altar of the Lord our God as is written in the Torah.
36 And to bring the first-fruits of our soil and the first of every fruit of every tree, year by year, to the Temple of the Lord.
37 And the firstborn of our sons and of our animals, as is written in the Torah, and the firstborn of our cattle and our flocks to bring to the Temple of our God, to the priests who minister in the Temple of our God.
38 And the first of our dough and our heave offerings and the fruit of every tree, wine, and oil, we shall bring to the priests, to the chambers of the Temple of our God, and the tithe of our soil to the Levites, and they, the Levites, who receive tithes in all the cities of our work.
39 And the priest, the son of Aaron, shall be with the Levites at the Levites’ tithing and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithe to the Temple of our God, to the chambers, to the storehouse.
40 For the Children of Israel and the children of the Levites shall bring the heave-offering of corn, wine, and oil, to the chambers where the Temple vessels and the ministering priests are, and the gatekeepers, and the singers, and we will not forsake the Temple of our God.”

Ruth is one of the greatest converts who ever lived.
Though not a lengthy book, Ruth is filled with significant story in the Hebrew Bible that tell the tale of a foreign woman, who later becomes an ancestor of King David.
Lamentations is a collection of five powerful reflections mourning the destruction of the first Temple and the exile of the Jewish people from Jerusalem.

The book is attributed to the prophet Jeremiah, who have written it in vivid, anguished language to express his own grief as well as that of the Jewish community as a whole.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
