HAGGAI
CHAGGAI
Consider your ways.
Chapter 1
Haggai Points to Your Ways or Your Deeds How You are So Much of Yourself — Selfishness
Haggai On Acts That Displease And Please G-d
Hence, your time and effort do not yield your desired result.
But this may only apply to you who long to find favor in G-d’s eyes with sincerity and in truth.
“The Rebuilding Of The Temple”
In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of Hashem came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judea, …
1:1
“Thus said Hashem, Master of Legions: This nation has said, ‘The time has not yet come!” [But I say] ‘It is the time for the Temple of Hashem to be rebuilt!’”
:2
So now, thus said Hashem, Master of Legions: Set your heart to [consider] your ways!
:5
You have sown much but bring in little; eating without being satisfied, drinking without quenching thirst, dressing, yet no one is warmed; and whoever earns money earns it for a purse with a hole.
:6
Go up to the mountain and bring wood and build the Temple; I will be pleased with it and I will be honored — said Hashem.
:8
You looked for much [produce] but, behold, it is little; you bring it home and I blow upon it. Why is this?! — the word of Hashem, Master of Legions — because of My Temple which is ruined, while you run, each to his own house.
:9
I have declared a drought upon the land and upon the mountains … and upon all the toil of [your] hands.
:11
And Haggai, the agent of Hashem, in the agency of Hashem, spoke to the people, saying, “I am with you — the word of Hashem.”
:13
Hashem aroused the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, the governor of Judea, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the Kohen Gadol, and the spirit of the entire remnant of the people, and they came and did work on the Temple of Hashem, Master of Legions, their God,
:14
1 In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to Haggai, the prophet to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak the High Priest, saying:
2 So said the Lord of Hosts, saying: This people has said, “The time has not come-the time for the house of the Lord to be built.”
3 And the word of the Lord came through Haggai the prophet, saying:
4 Is it [an appropriate] time for you yourselves to sit in your ceiled houses, when this house is in ruins?
5 And now, so said the Lord of Hosts: Consider your ways.
6 You have sown much and you bring in little. You eat without being satiated. You drink without getting your fill. You dress, and it has no warmth. And he who profits, profits into a bundle with holes.
7 So said the Lord of Hosts: Consider your ways.
8 Ascend the mountain, bring wood, and build the house-and I will accept it, and I will be honored, said the Lord.
9 You looked for much, and behold, it became little. And you brought it home, and I will blow into it. Because of what? says the Lord of Hosts, Because of My house that is lying in ruins. Yet you run, each to his house.
10 Therefore because of you the heavens have kept back, so that there is no dew, and the earth has kept back its produce.
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the grain, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon everything that the ground will bring forth-and upon man, and upon beast, and upon all the labor of their hands.
12 And Zerubbabel the son of Shaltiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak the High Priest, and all the remnant of the people heeded the command of the Lord their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people feared the Lord.
13 And Haggai, the messenger of the Lord, said in [fulfilling] the Lord’s mission to the people, saying: I am with you, says the Lord.
14 And the Lord inspired the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shaltiel, the governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak the High Priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, and they came and performed labor in the house of the Lord of Hosts, their God
15 on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth [month], in the second year of King Darius.
