Chapter 27

King Jotham

Doing what is proper in the eyes of Hashem results in blessings.

No question, that the opposite is true in doing what is not proper in the eyes of Hashem.

“King Jotham”

Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, …
27:1
He did what was proper in the eyes of Hashem, just as his father Uzziah had done, except that he did not enter the Sanctuary of Hashem. The people were still acting corruptly.
:2
Jotham became strong, for he acted properly before Hashem his God.
:6
Jotham lay with his forefathers and was buried in the City of David. His son Ahaz ruled in his place.
:9

1 Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and his mother’s name was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok.
2 He did what was proper in the eyes of the Lord, as all that his father Uzziah had done; only he did not enter the Temple of the Lord; but the people were still acting corruptly.
3 He built the upper gate of the House of the Lord, and in the wall of the rampart he built extensively.
4 And he built cities in Mount Judah, and in the forests he built palaces and towers.
5 And he fought with the king of the children of Ammon, and he overpowered them, and the children of Ammon gave him in that year a hundred talents of silver and ten thousand kor of wheat and ten thousand of barley; this the children of Ammon returned to him, and in the second year and the third.
6 And Jotham became powerful, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.
7 And the rest of the affairs of Jotham and all his wars and his ways-behold they are inscribed in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
8 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.
9 And Jotham slept with his forefathers, and they buried him in the City of David, and his son Ahaz reigned in his stead.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
