Chapter 36

The Turn of Events

One king after the other.

One thing is certain, G-d is in control as the prophecy unfolds.

What more can you ask for? G-d exist.

To keep His commandments is man’s whole duty (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

Not to worship other gods (Jesus, Trinity, Triune or 3-in-1 G-d).

“King Jehoahaz”
“King Jehoiakim”
“King Jehoiachin”
“King Zedekiah”

The common people then took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and crowned him in place of his father in Jerusalem.
36:1
The king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem, …
:36:3
The king of Egypt then enthroned [Jehoahaz’s] brother of Eliakim over Judah and Jerusalem, and he changed his name to Jehoiakim. As for his brother Joahaz, Neco took him and brought him to Egypt.
:4
… He did what was evil in the eyes of Hashem his God.
:5
… His son Jehoiachin reigned in his place.
:8
Jehoiachin was eight years old when he became king, … He did what was evil in the eyes of Hashem.
:9
At the turn of the year, King Nebuchadnezzar sent and had him brought to Babylonia, …and he made Zedekiah, his brother, king over Judah and Jerusalem.
:10
He did what was evil in the eyes of Hashem his God, and he did not humble himself before Jeremiah the Prophet, who spoke for Hashem.
:12
… He stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against repenting to Hashem, God of Israel.
:13
… and they contaminated the Temple of Hashem, which he had sanctified, in Jerusalem.
:14
Hashem, God of their fathers, had addressed them through His messengers, sending them from early morning, for he had pity on His people and on His Abode.
:15
But they only insulted the messengers of God and scorned His words and taunted His prophets until the wrath of Hashem rose up against His people beyond remedy.
:16
This was in fulfillment of the word of Hashem spoken by Jeremiah, until the land would be appeased of its Sabbatical years — all the years of its desolation it rested, to the completion of seventy years.
:21
“Thus said Cyrus king of Persia: Hashem, God of Heaven, has given to me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He has commanded me to build Him a Temple in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. …
:23

1And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and made him king instead of his father in Jerusalem.
2Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.
3And the king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem, and he imposed a fine upon the land of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
4And the king of Egypt crowned Eliakim his brother over Judah and Jerusalem, and he changed his name to Jehoiakim, and Neco took Joahaz his brother and brought him to Egypt.
5Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem, and he did that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord his God.
6Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon advanced upon him, and bound him in copper chains to bring him to Babylon.
7And Nebuchadnezzar brought some of the vessels of the House of the Lord to Babylon and placed them in his palace in Babylon.
8And the rest of the affairs of Jehoiakim and the abominations which he committed, and that which was found upon him-behold they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.
9Jehoiachin was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem, and he did that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord.
10And at the return of the year, King Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon with the precious vessels of the House of the Lord, and he made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.
11Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.
12And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord his God; he did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, [speaking] from the mouth of the Lord.
13And he also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who adjured him by God, and he stiffened his neck and strengthened his heart, not to return to the Lord God of Israel.
14Also, all the chiefs of the priests and the people committed many treacherous acts, like all the abominations of the nations, and they defiled the House of the Lord, which He had hallowed in Jerusalem.
15And the Lord God of their forefathers sent upon them through His messengers, sending them early and often, for He had pity on His people and on His abode.
16But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised His words and scoffed His prophets, until the Lord’s wrath ascended upon His people beyond remedy.
17And He brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, and he slew their young men by the sword in their Temple, and he had pity neither on youth nor virgin, elder nor ancient one; He delivered all into his hand.
18And all the vessels of the House of God, both large and small, and the treasuries of the House of the Lord, and the treasuries of the king and his officers; he brought everything to Babylon.
19And they burned the House of God, and they demolished the wall of Jerusalem, and all its palaces they burned with fire, and destroyed all its precious vessels.
20And he exiled the survivors from the sword to Babylon, and they became vassals to him and to his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia.
21To fulfill the word of the Lord in the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land was appeased for its Sabbaths; [for] all the days of its desolation it rested until the completion of seventy years.
22And in the first year of Cyrus, king of Persia, at the completion of the word of the Lord in the mouth of Jeremiah, the Lord aroused the spirit of Cyrus the king of Persia, and he issued a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying:
23″So said Cyrus the king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth has the Lord God of the heavens delivered to me, and He commanded me to build Him a House in Jerusalem, which is in Judea. Who among you is of all His people, may the Lord his God be with him, and he may ascend.”

Ruth is one of the greatest converts who ever lived.
Though not a lengthy book, Ruth is filled with significant story in the Hebrew Bible that tell the tale of a foreign woman, who later becomes an ancestor of King David.
Lamentations is a collection of five powerful reflections mourning the destruction of the first Temple and the exile of the Jewish people from Jerusalem.

The book is attributed to the prophet Jeremiah, who have written it in vivid, anguished language to express his own grief as well as that of the Jewish community as a whole.

The Book of Chronicles was composed by Ezra, and the Sages of the Talmud (Oral law) canonized it as part of Scripture. By definition, therefore, it was composed under the guidance of the Divine Spirit.
The book that recounts the history of the Israelites from the time of Adam to the end of the Babylonian exile — this is the Book of Chronicles. Daily Holy Bible Reading lays the period from Adam to the death of King David, and the period from the death of King David to the end of the Babylonian exile in the two (2) parts of the Book of Chronicles (Divrei Hayamim).

The Book of Chronicles is an important source of information about the history of the Jewish people. It provides details about the kings of Israel and Judah, the Temple in Jerusalem, and the religious practices of the Jewish people. The book also contains a number of important theological teachings, such as the importance of following God’s commandments and the promise of God’s redemption.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
