IYOV

The Book of Iyov (Job) in the Hebrew Bible.

Right at the heart of the age-old question: Why do bad people prosper while good people suffer?

This is a clear test of one’s worth to be blessed by G-d.

The book begs the question WHY?

Job Is Criticized Time And Time Again

Imagine being in a situation even 50% of Job’s…

You more likely conclude, “G-d does not exist.”

Compare his time with our time. Is it easier to find G-d in the ancient days? Or today?

Creation is a strong proof that there is a Creator. Each and every creation or creature has its own purpose.

Only when evil people prosper, and good people suffer is what leads one to question, “Does G-d exist?”

“G-d Does Not Pervert Justice”

For an ear can discern words as a palate can taste for eating.
34:3
… workers of iniquity, to walk with men of wickedness; and who has said, ‘A man has nothing to gain by pleasing God.’
:8-9
… To do evil is sacrilegious to God, and iniquity to the Almighty!
:10
For He repays the deeds of man, and causes man to find according to his conduct.
:11
Surely God will not act wickedly, and the Almighty will not pervert justice.
:12
Would [God] heal someone who despises justice? …
:17
For [His] eyes are upon man’s ways, and He sees all his steps;
:21
there is no darkness and no shadow of death where evildoers can be hidden.
:22
For He does not impose too much upon man, so that they could come before God for justice.
:23
He smashes mighty men without calculation and sets up others in their place;
:24
because they turned away from following Him, and did not contemplate all His ways.
:27
When He grants [a person] serenity, who can cause [that person] turmoil? And when He hides [His] face [from a person], who can take note of him? Upon a nation or upon an individual — all are alike.
:29
Must [God] have your [consent] to punish, that you can reject? [God says,] ‘Will you choose and not I?’ …
:33

1 Now Elihu raised his voice and said,
2 “You wise men, hearken to my words, and you knowledgeable ones, give ear to me.
3 For the ear tests words, as the palate tastes food.
4 Let us choose judgment for ourselves; let us know among ourselves what is good.
5 For Job said, ‘I am righteous, and God has deprived me of my right.
6 Because of my sentence, I call [Him] a liar. My wound is incurable without transgression.’
7 Who is a man like Job, who drinks derision like water?
8 [Who] went on the road to accompany workers of iniquity, and to go with men of wickedness?
9 For he said, ‘A man derives no benefit when he desires [to go] with God.’
10 Therefore, men of understanding, hearken to me; far be it for God [to commit] wickedness or for the Almighty to [commit] injustice.
11 For He recompenses man for his deed, and according to man’s way He causes him to find.
12 Surely God does not condemn and the Almighty does not pervert justice.
13 Who gave Him a charge over the earth, and who disposed the entire world?
14 If He puts His heart to it, His spirit and His soul He would gather in to Himself.
15 All flesh would perish together, and man would return to the dust.
16 And if you wish, understand; hearken to this, lend your ears to the sound of my words.
17 Will He heal even one who hates judgment? Will you accuse even a very righteous One?
18 Is it proper to say of a king, ‘scoundrel’; ‘wicked,’ of nobles?
19 Who did not respect princes, and a prince was not recognized before a poor man, for they are all the work of His hands.
20 In a moment, they die, and at midnight a nation quakes and passes away; they remove their strength-it is not in their hands.
21 For His eyes are upon man’s ways, and He sees all his steps.
22 There is neither darkness nor the shadow of death wherein workers of iniquity may hide.
23 For He will not place additional [guilt] on a man to go to God in judgment.
24 He shatters the mighty without number and He stands others in their stead.
25 Because He recognizes their deeds; He turns night [upon them] and they are crushed.
26 In the place of the wicked He smote them, in the place of viewers
27 Because they turned away from following Him, and they did not understand any of His ways
28 To bring upon Him the cry of the poor, and He hears the cry of the afflicted.
29 When He quiets [them], who will deal wickedly? When He hides His face, who will see Him?-whether [it be done] to a nation or to a man, alike.
30 That a flattering man shall not reign, because of the snares of the people.
31 For to God should be said, ‘I will bear it; I will not destroy [myself].
32 Besides what I see, You instruct me; if I have committed injustice, I will not continue.’
33 From you[r counsel] should He pay it, for you despised [your life]? Should you choose and not I? And what you know, speak?
34 Men of understanding will say to me, and a wise man will listen to me,
35 Job does not speak with knowledge, and his words are without sense.
36 My Father! May Job be tried to eternity, so that there be repentances among men of iniquity.
37 For he adds transgression to his sin; among us he speaks loquaciously and multiplies his words to God.”
