Job Chapter 5

JOB

ONE CHAPTER A DAY

On Daily Holy Bible Reading

IYOV

The Book of Iyov (Job) in the Hebrew Bible.

Right at the heart of the age-old question: Why do bad people prosper while good people suffer?

This is a clear test of one’s worth to be blessed by G-d.

The book begs the question WHY?

Job On G-d’s Discipline

All are but tests to make you deserving of G-d’s help and protection.

Difficulties and sufferings in life are not always punishment; especially to the righteous.

What then are those for?

Read. Listen. Study. Learn. Understand. Know. Live…

“Be Confident Of G-d’s Help”

For anger kills the fool; envy slays the naïve.
5:2
For destruction does not emerge from dust, nor does misery grow from earth.
:6
For man is born to weariness, while spiritual beings soar in flight.
:7
By day they encounter darkness, and at midday they grope as in the night.
:14
Thus there is hope for the poor, and iniquity shuts its mouth.
:16
Behold, fortunate is the man whom God rebukes. Do not despise the Almighty’s discipline:
:17
For He inflicts pain and bandages it; He crushes, and His hands heal.
:18
From six travails He will save you, and in the seventh no harm will reach you;
:19
in famine He will deliver you from death, and in war, from the power of the sword.
:20
You will go to the grave in ripe old age, just as a sheaf is brought in, in its season.
:26

1 Now call; will anyone answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
2 For anger will kill a fool, and wrath will kill a naive person.
3 I have seen a fool taking root, and suddenly I cursed his dwelling.
4 May his sons distance themselves from salvation, and may they be crushed in the gate without a rescuer.
5 The hungry shall eat his harvest, and he will take it for the one saved from his weapons, and one of the thirsty shall swallow their riches.
6 For not from the dust does ruin emerge, and not from the soil does trouble spring,
7 because man is born for trouble, but flying creatures fly upward.
8 But I would seek of God, and to God I would commit my cause,
9 Who does things great and unsearchable, wonders without number,
10 Who gives rain upon the face of the land and sends water upon the face of outside places,
11 to place the humble on high, and those blackened are exalted by salvation.
12 He frustrates the plans of the crafty, so that their hands do not carry out their plans.
13 He takes the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of the crooked is hasty.
14 By day, they meet darkness, and they grope at noon as at night.
15 And He saved [them] from the sword of their mouth, and the needy from the hand of the mighty.
16 So it was hope for the poor, and libel shut its mouth.
17 Behold, fortunate is the man whom God reproves; so do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
18 For He brings pain and binds it; He wounds, and His hands heal.
19 In six troubles He will save you, and in the seventh no harm will touch you.
20 In famine, He redeemed you from death, and in war, from the power of the sword.
21 You shall be hidden from the scourging tongue, and you shall not fear plunder when it comes.
22 You shall mock plunder and hoarding, and you shall not fear the beasts of the land.
23 But you have a treaty with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field made peace with you.
24 Then you shall know that there is peace in your tent, and you shall visit your habitation and miss nothing.
25 And you shall know that your seed shall be many, and your offspring [as numerous] as the grass of the earth.
26 You shall come to the grave at a ripe old age, as the grain stack is taken away in its time.
27 Behold this; we have inquired into it, so it is. Listen to it, and you-know for yourself. “

Divine wisdom or Divine justice may not be evident during the test with hardship and suffering. But, full trust in G-d is the best response no matter how difficult the situation may be or become.
