Chapter 3

Zephaniah Ends With G-d’s Judgment Both to His People and Those Who Go Against

Zephaniah On G-d’s Salvation For His People

The day of Hashem will arrive.

Those who did not listen to the voice of Hashem through His servants the prophets will have its place. All those who did not fear Hashem. But rather rebel, desecrated and robbed the Torah.

“Jerusalem”
“Zion”
“Salvation”

It did not listen to the voice [of the prophets]; it did not accept chastisement; it did not trust Hashem; it did not draw near to its God.
3:2
Its prophets are impetuous, men of rebellion; its priests have desecrated the sacred; they have robbed the Torah.
:4
Hashem, the Righteous One, is within it; He commits no corruption. Morning after morning, He brings His judgments to light, it does not fail, but the corrupt one knows no shame.
:5
I said, ‘Just fear Me, accept chastisement,’ so that her Abode would not be terminated, despite all that I have ordained upon her. But [instead] they arose early and corrupted all their deeds.
:7
Therefore, wait for Me — the word of Hashem — for the day when I will arise to plunder [them]. For My judgment will be to assemble nations, to gather kingdoms, to pour My fury upon them, all My burning wrath; for with the fire of My jealousy the entire earth will be consumed.
:8
For then I will change the nations [to speak] a pure language, so that they all will proclaim the Name of Hashem, to worship Him with a united resolve.
:9
… For then I will remove from your midst those who exult in your arrogance, and you will no longer continue to be haughty on My holy mountain.
:11
The remnant of Israel will not commit corruption, they will not speak falsehood, and a deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouth; for they will graze and lie down with none to make them afraid.
:13
Hashem has removed your judgments; He has cleared away your enemy. The King of Israel, Hashem, is in your midst, you will never again fear evil.
:15
Hashem, your God, is in your midst, the Mighty One Who will save. …
:17
Behold, at that time I will crush all those who afflict you. I will save the cripple, and gather the castoff; and I will make them for praise and a good name throughout the land of their shame.
:19
At that time I will bring you [in], and at [that] time I will gather you; for I will make you into a good name and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I return your captives before your eyes, said Hashem.
:20

1 Woe to her who is filthy and polluted-the dove-like city.
2 She did not obey, she did not accept reproof. She did not trust in the Lord. She did not draw near to her God.
3 Her princes in her midst are roaring lions; her judges, wolves of the evening. They did not leave over the bones for morning.
4 Her prophets are unstable, treacherous people. Her priests have profaned the sanctuary; they have removed the Torah.
5 The Lord is just in her midst; He commits no injustice. Every morning He brings His judgment to light. It does not fail. But the one who commits injustice knows no shame.
6 I have cut off nations; their towers have become desolate. I have destroyed their streets so that no one passes by. Their cities have become waste so that there is no man-so that there is no inhabitant.
7 I said, “Surely you will fear Me, you will accept reproof, and her dwelling shall not be cut off, all that I ordained upon her.” But they arose early and corrupted all their deeds.
8 Therefore, wait for Me, says the Lord, for the day that I will rise up to meet [with you]. For it is My judgment to assemble nations, to gather kingdoms, to pour out My fury upon them; yea, all the kindling of My wrath, for with the fire of My jealousy all the earth shall be consumed.
9 For then I will convert the peoples to a pure language that all of them call in the name of the Lord, to worship Him of one accord.
10 From the other side of the rivers of Cush, My supplicants, the community of My scattered ones-they shall bring Me an offering.
11 On that day you shall not be ashamed of all your deeds [with] which you rebelled against Me, for then I will remove from your midst those who rejoice in your pride, and you shall no longer continue to be haughty on My holy mount.
12 And I will leave over in your midst a humble and poor people, and they shall take shelter in the name of the Lord.
13 The remnant of Israel shall neither commit injustice nor speak lies; neither shall deceitful speech be found in their mouth, for they shall graze and lie down, with no one to cause them to shudder.
14 Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Rejoice and jubilate wholeheartedly, O daughter of Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has removed your afflictions; He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst-you shall no longer fear evil.
16 On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, “Have no fear! O Zion, let your hands not be slack.
17 The Lord your God is in your midst-a Mighty One Who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will be silent in His love. He will jubilate over you with song.”
18 Those who are removed from the appointed season I have destroyed. They were of you-it was a burden of shame upon her.
19 Behold, I wreak destruction upon all those who afflict you at that time. And I will save the one who limps, and I will gather the stray one, and I will make them a praise and a name throughout all the land where they suffered shame.
20 At that time I will bring them, and at [that] time I will gather you, for I will make you a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your captivities before your eyes, said the Lord.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
