Chapter 11

Rehoboam Obeyed The Words Of Hashem Not To Fight Jeroboam

The Kohanim (Priests) and Levites presented themselves to Rehoboam.

Rehoboam married eighteen wives and sixty concubines.

“Rehoboam Consolidates His Rule And Fortified Cities”

“Jeroboam Established Priest On His Own, Demons And Calves He Had Made”

“The Family Of Rehoboam”

The word of Hashem then came to Shemaiah, the man of God, saying,
11:2
“Speak to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all of Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
11:3
Thus said Hashem: Do not go up and fight with your brethren; let each man return to his home, for this matter was brought about by Me.” They obeyed the words of Hashem, and turned back from going to [fight] Jeroboam.
:4
In each city [he stored] shields and spears, and he fortified them very greatly. Thus Judah and Benjamin remained his.
:12
The Kohanim and Levites throughout Israel presented themselves to [Rehoboam] from all their territories,
:13
… because Jeroboam and his sons had dismissed them from ministering to Hashem,
:14
for he had established priests for himself for the high places and demons and calves that he had made.
:15
They strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and they bolstered Rehoboam son of Solomon for three years, for they followed the path of David and Solomon for three years.
:17
Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than his [other] wives and concubines (for he had married eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters),
:21

1 And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, and he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to wage war with the House of Israel, to restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.
2 And the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, the man of God, saying:
3 “Speak to Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying:
4 So said the Lord, ‘You shall not go up and you shall not war with your brothers; return each man to his home for this thing has been brought about by Me.”‘ And they heeded the word of the Lord, and they returned from going to Jeroboam.
5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and he built cities for fortification in Judah.
6 And he built Bethlehem and Etam and Tekoa.
7 And Beth-Zur and Socho and Adullam.
8 And Gath and Maresha and Ziph.
9 And Adoraim and Lachish and Azekah.
10 And Zoreah and Ajalon and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.
11 And he strengthened the fortifications, and he placed in them leaders, and storehouses of food, oil, and wine.
12 And in every city [he placed] shields and spears, and he made them exceedingly strong, and Judah and Benjamin were his.
13 And the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel stood by him in all their boundary.
14 For the Levites had abandoned their open land and their heritage, and they went to Judah and to Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had coerced them to abandon their position of ministering to the Lord.
15 And he stationed for himself priests for the high places and for the satyrs, and for the calves that he had made.
16 And after them, from all the tribes of Israel, those who put their heart to seek the Lord, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord, the God of their forefathers.
17 And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam the son of Solomon for three years, for they went in the way of David and Solomon for three years.
18 And Rehoboam took himself a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, [and] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.
19 And she bore him sons: Jeush and Shemariah and Zaham.
20 And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom, and she bore him Abijah and Attai and Ziza and Shelomith.
21 And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines, for he married eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
22 And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be the head, as a leader among his brothers, in order to make him king.
23 And he understood, and he dispersed of all his sons to all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities, and he gave them abundant food, and he sought many wives.

Lamentations is a collection of five powerful reflections mourning the destruction of the first Temple and the exile of the Jewish people from Jerusalem.

The book is attributed to the prophet Jeremiah, who have written it in vivid, anguished language to express his own grief as well as that of the Jewish community as a whole.

The Book of Chronicles was composed by Ezra, and the Sages of the Talmud (Oral law) canonized it as part of Scripture. By definition, therefore, it was composed under the guidance of the Divine Spirit.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
