In the second year of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah, son of Jehoash king of Judah, became king.
14:1
He did what was proper in the eyes of Hashem, but not like his forefather David; he did everything as his father Jehoash had done.

However, the high places did not cease; the people continued to sacrifice and burn incense at the high places.

… as it is written in the Book of the Torah of Moses, which Hashem had commanded, saying, “Fathers shall not be put to death because of sons, and sons shall not be put to death because of fathers; rather a man should be put to death for his own sin.”

Jehoash lay with his forefathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. His son Jeroboam reigned in his place.

All the people of Judah then took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and crowned him in place of his father Amaziah.

In the fifteenth year of [the reign of] Amaziah son of Jehoash king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Jehoash king of Israel became king, in Samaria, [and reigned] for forty-one years.

He did what was evil in the eyes of Hashem; he did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin.

For Hashem had seen that Israel’s suffering was very severe, with none surviving and none remaining, and there was no helper for Israel.

But Hashem did not say to erase the name of Israel from under the heavens, so He saved them through the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.

Jeroboam lay with his forefathers, the kings of Israel; and his son Zechariah reigned in his place.

1 In the second year of Joash the son of Joahaz the king of Israel, Amaziah the son of Joash the king of Judah, became king.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name was Jehoadan of Jerusalem.
3 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, however, not like his father David; like all that Joash his father did, he did.
4 However, the high places were not removed; the people were still slaughtering sacrifices and burning incense on the high places.
5 And it was, when the kingdom became well established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had assassinated his father.
6 But the sons of the assassins he did not execute, as it is written in the book of the Torah of Moses, which the Lord commanded saying: “Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, nor shall sons be put to death for fathers, but each man shall be put to death for his own sin.”
7 He struck down ten thousand of the Edomites in the valley of salt, and he seized the rock in battle, and he called its name Joktheel until this day.
8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu the king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us confront each other.”
9 And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah the king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son for a wife,’ and the wild beast that was in Lebanon came and trampled the thistle.
10 You have defeated the Edomites and your heart has made you arrogant. Retain your honor by staying home. Now why should you provoke evil and fall, you and Judah with you? “
11 Amaziah did not heed, however, and Jehoash the king of Israel went up and they confronted one another, he and Amaziah the king of Judah, in Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
12 And Judah was beaten before Israel, and they fled each man to his dwelling places.
13 And Jehoash the king of Israel seized Amaziah the king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, in Beth-shemesh, and he came to Jerusalem and breached the wall of Jerusalem at the gate of Ephraim until the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
14 And he took all the gold and silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s palace, and the hostage children; and he returned to Samaria.
15 And the rest of the deeds of Jehoash which he performed, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah the king of Judah, are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
16 And Jehoash slept with his forefathers, and he was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel, and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.
17 And Amaziah the son of Joash the king of Judah lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz the king of Israel.
18 And the rest of the deeds of Amaziah are written in the book of chronicles of the kings of Judah.
19 And they revolted against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. And they sent after him to Lachish and assassinated him there.
20 And they carried him on the horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his forefathers in the city of David.
21 And the entire nation of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.
22 He built up Elath and restored it to Judah, after the king had slept with his forefathers.
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash the king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash the king of Israel, ruled in Samaria forty-one years.
24 And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat that he had caused Israel to sin.
25 He restored the boundary of Israel from the approach to Hamath until the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel which He spoke through his servant Jonah the son of Amittai the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher.
26 For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel becoming increasingly severe, with neither stored property nor free property, and no one to help Israel.
27 And the Lord did not speak to eradicate the name of Israel from under the heavens, and He saved them through Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28 And the rest of the events of Jeroboam and all that he did and his mighty deeds, how he fought, and how he restored Damascus and Hamath to Judah through Israel, are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
29 And Jeroboam slept with his forefathers, with the kings of Israel, and his son Zechariah reigned in his stead.
