JEWISH People II

The ISRAELITES

G-D'S CHOSEN PEOPLE

holy bible reading

For you are a holy people to Hashem, your God; Hashem,
your God, has chosen you to be for Him a treasured
people above all the peoples that are on the face of the
earth.
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 7:6

Hashem, Your God, Will Make You Supreme Over All The Nations Of The Earth

When Hashem, your God, will bring you to the Land to
which you come to possess it, and He will thrust away
many nations from before you – the Hittite, the Girgashite,
the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivvite, and
the Jebusite – seven nations greater and mightier than
you,
7:1

You shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your
daughter to his son, and you shall not take his daughter
for your son, for he will cause your child to turn away from
after Me and they will worship the gods of others; then
Hashem’s wrath will burn against you, and He will destroy
you quickly.
:3-4

For you are a holy people to Hashem, your God; Hashem,
your God, has chosen you to be for Him a treasured
people above all the peoples that are on the face of the
earth.
:6

Not because you are more numerous than all the peoples
did Hashem desire you and choose you, for you are the
fewest of all the peoples. Rather, because of Hashem’s
love for you and because He observes the oath that He
swore to your forefathers did He take you out with a strong
hand and redeem you from the house of slavery, from the
hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.
:7-8

You must know that Hashem, your God – He is the God,
the faithful God, Who safeguards the covenant and the
kindness for those who love Him and for those who
observe His commandments, for a thousand generations.
:9

You shall observe the commandment, and the decrees
and the ordinances that I command you today, to perform
them.
:11

You will be the most blessed of the peoples; there will be
no infertile male or infertile female among you or among
your animals. Hashem will remove from you every illness;
and all the bad maladies of Egypt that you knew – He will
not put them upon you, but will put them upon all your
foes.
:14-15

You shall not be broken before them, for Hashem, your
God is among you, a great and awesome God.
:21

The carved images of their gods you shall burn in the fire; you shall not covet and take for yourself the silver and gold that is on them, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is an abomination of Hashem, your God.
:25

1 When the Lord, your God, brings you into the land to which you are coming to possess it, He will cast away many nations from before you: the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivvites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and powerful than you.
2 And the Lord, your God, will deliver them to you, and you shall smite them. You shall utterly destroy them; neither shall you make a covenant with them, nor be gracious to them.
3 You shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughter to his son, and you shall not take his daughter for your son.
4 For he will turn away your son from following Me, and they will worship the gods of others, and the wrath of the Lord will be kindled against you, and He will quickly destroy you.
5 But so shall you do to them: You shall demolish their altars and smash their monuments, and cut down their asherim trees, and burn their graven images with fire.
6 For you are a holy people to the Lord, your God: the Lord your God has chosen you to be His treasured people, out of all the peoples upon the face of the earth.
7 Not because you are more numerous than any people did the Lord delight in you and choose you, for you are the least of all the peoples.
8 But because of the Lord’s love for you, and because He keeps the oath He swore to your forefathers, the Lord took you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.
9 Know, therefore, that the Lord, your God He is God, the faithful God, Who keeps the covenant and loving kindness with those who love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations.
10 And He repays those who hate Him, to their face, to cause them to perish; He will not delay the one who hates Him, but he will repay him to his face.
11 You shall therefore, observe the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command you this day to do.
12 And it will be, because you will heed these ordinances and keep them and perform, that the Lord, your God, will keep for you the covenant and the kindness that He swore to your forefathers.
13 And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your soil, your grain, your wine, and your oil, the offspring of your cattle and the choice of your flocks, in the land which He swore to your forefathers to give you.
14 You shall be blessed above all peoples: There will be no sterile male or barren female among you or among your livestock.
15 And the Lord will remove from you all illness, and all of the evil diseases of Egypt which you knew, He will not set upon you, but He will lay them upon all your enemies.
16 And you shall consume all the peoples which the Lord your God gives you; you shall not spare them, nor shall you worship their gods, for that will be a snare for you.
17 Will you say to yourself, “These nations are more numerous than I; how will I be able to drive them out”?
18 You shall not fear them. You shall surely remember what the Lord, your God, did to Pharaoh and to all of Egypt:
19 The great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm with which the Lord, your God, brought you out. So will the Lord, Your God, do to all the peoples you fear.
20 And also the tzir’ah, the Lord, your God, will incite against them, until the survivors and those who hide from you perish.
21 You shall not be terrified of them, for the Lord, your God, Who is in your midst, is a great and awesome God.
22 And the Lord, your God, will drive out those nations from before you, little by little. You will not be able to destroy them quickly, lest the beasts of the field outnumber you.
23 But the Lord, your God, will deliver them to you, and He will confound them with great confusion, until they are destroyed.
24 And He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from beneath the heavens; no man will be able to stand up before you, until you have destroyed them.
25 The graven images of their gods you will burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or gold that is upon them and take it for yourself, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord, your God.
26 Nor should you bring an abomination into your house, lest you are to be destroyed like it, but you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is to be destroyed.
