Nahum Chapter 3 (Last chapter) When You Rely on Other Means Not G-d Alone

Nahum On Nineveh’s End

Wickedness and evilness will have both its gruesome end.

Your deeds matter the most; your sweet talk will never suffice.

Listen. Read. Study. To learn the consequences of sinning by disobeying and rebelling against G-d.

“Woe to Nineveh”

Woe to the City of Blood; it is all deceit, full of robbery; prey departs not [from it];
3:1
[All this] because of the many harlotries of the harlot, rich in grace, practitioner of witchcraft, who sells nations through her harlotries and families through her witchcraft.
:4
Behold, I am against you — the word of Hashem, Master of Legions — and I will pull up your skirts over your face; and I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame.
:5
… ‘Nineveh has been ravaged; who will bemoan her?’ From where can I seek comforter for you?
:7
There is no one in pain over your fracture [though] your wound is grievous. All who hear the report about you clap their hands over you; for over whom has your wickedness not passed constantly?
:19

1 Woe to the city of blood; it is all lies, full of robbery; the prey departs not.
2 The sound of the scourge..and the sound of the noise of the wheels and the galloping horses and the bounding chariots.
3 The horseman raises himself and the blade of the sword and the burnished spear and the many slain-yea, the heaps of corpses. There is no end to the bodies, and they shall stumble over their bodies.
4 Because of the many harlotries of the harlot, charming and enchanting, who delivers nations with her harlotries, and families with her enchantments.
5 Behold! I am against you, says the Lord of Hosts, and I will uncover your skirts upon your face-and I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame.
6 And I will cast detestable things upon you and make you vile, and I will make you like dung.
7 And it shall come to pass that whoever sees you shall wander away from you, and he shall say, “Nineveh has been plundered.” Who will console her? Whence shall I seek comforters for you?
8 Are you better than No-Amon, which was situated among the rivers, with water around it-whose wall was the sea and of the sea, its wall?
9 Cush was [its] strength, and Egypt, which had no end; Put and the Lubim were your helpers.
10 She, too, went into exile in captivity. Her young children, too, were dashed at the head of all the streets. And they cast lots on her dignitaries, and all her great men were bound in chains.
11 You, too, shall become drunk; you shall disappear; you, too, shall seek refuge from the enemy.
12 All your fortresses are like fig trees with first-ripe fruits; if they be shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Behold! Your people are [like] women in your midst. For your enemies, the gates of your land shall be opened; a fire shall consume your bars.
14 Draw siege water for yourself; strengthen your fortifications; come into the clay and tread the mortar; grasp the brickmold.
15 There a fire shall consume you; a sword shall cut you off, it shall consume you as the nibbling locust [does]. You shall be swept away by the nibbling locust; you shall be swept away like the increasing locust.
16 You have increased your traffickers more than the stars of the heavens; the nibbling locust spreads out and flies away.
17 Your princes are like the increasing locust, and your marshals like armies of locusts which alight on the walls on a cold day; the sun shines, and it flies away, and its place is not known-where they are.
18 Your leaders slumber, O King of Assyria; your mighty men are at rest; your people are scattered on the mountains, and no one gathers them in.
19 No one is pained over your destruction; your wound is grievous; all who hear your report clap hands over you, for upon whom did your harm not pass constantly?

Pay Attention.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
