Chapter 10

Chronicles Commences On A Tragic Note

Why did G-d cause him to die?

Is it because of his obedience to G-d’s command? Or otherwise (as the Greek book — New Testament teaches)?

Read to find out the truth…

“Death Of King Saul”

The Philistines battled with Israel. The men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell slain upon Mount Gilboa.
10:1
The Philistines then caught up with Saul and with his sons, and the Philistines slew Jonathan, Abinadab and malchi-shua, Saul’s sons.
:2
So Saul and his three sons died, and his entire household died together.
:6
They stripped him and they removed his head and his gear, and sent [heralds] all about the land of the Philistines to inform [those in their temple of] their idols and the people.
:9
Thus Saul died because of the betrayal by which he betrayed Hashem, because of the command of Hashem that he did not keep, and also for consulting necromancy to seek out,
:13
and not seeking out Hashem, so that He caused him to die and He transferred the kingship to David son of Jesse.
:14

1 And the Philistines fought with Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and they fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
2 And the Philistines pursued closely after Saul and his sons, and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.
3 And the battle bore heavily on Saul, and the archers discovered him, and he was terrified of the archers.
4 And Saul said to his weapon-bearer, “Draw your sword and pierce me with it, lest these uncircumcised ones come upon me and make a mockery of me,” but his weapon-bearer was unwilling, for he feared greatly, and Saul took the sword and fell upon it.
5 And his weapon-bearer saw that Saul had died, and he too fell upon the sword and died.
6 And Saul and his three sons died, and his entire household together died.
7 And all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled and that Saul and his sons died, and they abandoned their cities and fled, and the Philistines came and settled in them.
8 And it came about on the morrow that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his sons lying on Mount Gilboa.
9 And they stripped him and carried off his head and his weapons, and they sent throughout the land of Philistines all around to bring the news to the priests of their idols and to the people.
10 And they deposited his weapons in the temple of their gods, and his skull they impaled in the temple of Dagon.
11 And all of Jabesh-Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul.
12 And all the valiant men arose and carried off Saul’s body and the bodies of his sons and brought them to Jabesh, and they buried their bones beneath the oak in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
13 And Saul died because of the treachery that he had committed against the Lord, concerning the word of the Lord that he did not keep, and also because he had inquired of the dead spirit.
14 And he did not inquire of the Lord, and He slew him, and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.

Ruth is one of the greatest converts who ever lived.
Though not a lengthy book, Ruth is filled with significant story in the Hebrew Bible that tell the tale of a foreign woman, who later becomes an ancestor of King David.
Lamentations is a collection of five powerful reflections mourning the destruction of the first Temple and the exile of the Jewish people from Jerusalem.

The book is attributed to the prophet Jeremiah, who have written it in vivid, anguished language to express his own grief as well as that of the Jewish community as a whole.

The Book of Chronicles was composed by Ezra, and the Sages of the Talmud (Oral law) canonized it as part of Scripture. By definition, therefore, it was composed under the guidance of the Divine Spirit.

The book that recounts the history of the Israelites from the time of Adam to the end of the Babylonian exile — this is the Book of Chronicles. Daily Holy Bible Reading lays the period from Adam to the death of King David, and the period from the death of King David to the end of the Babylonian exile in the two (2) parts of the Book of Chronicles (Divrei Hayamim).

The Book of Chronicles is an important source of information about the history of the Jewish people. It provides details about the kings of Israel and Judah, the Temple in Jerusalem, and the religious practices of the Jewish people. The book also contains a number of important theological teachings, such as the importance of following God’s commandments and the promise of God’s redemption.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
